PixelPoint's Wireless Solutions Generating Hot Interest in the Market

Concord, ON Canada, June 2001 - PocketPOS, the wireless handheld solution by PixelPoint Technologies Inc., developer of PixelPoint POS for the restaurant industry, is becoming a recognized alternative to the stationary terminal. As demand for wireless technology continues to increase, PocketPOS is at the forefront in the restaurant industry.

With the advances in wireless technology, PixelPoint is excited about the interest in their handheld solution. PocketPOS features full screen POS software and the complete use of PixelPoint’s powerful features, all operating on Windows CE devices. First introduced at the 2000 National Restaurant Association’s (NRA) Restaurant Hotel-Motel Show in Chicago, PocketPOS is quickly gaining recognition.

A franchisee of Cincinnati’s Skyline Chili restaurants has implemented PocketPOS into three of his locations. Peter Perdikakis installed PocketPOS in two of his locations at the end of last year and just completed his third. Peter says, “After the initial learning curve, we’ve found that PocketPOS is very intuitive for our needs. The best thing with the implementation of this new technology was the seamless transition, and the benefits were evident almost immediately with more precise customer service.” Another satisfied installer is The Docks (www.thedocks.com) in Toronto, Canada. “We’ve implemented the wireless on our patio this summer, and with over 41,000 square feet, our servers spend a lot of time between their section and the bar.  Now, with PocketPOS, our customers have more interaction with their server because we are providing faster and more efficient service,” said Rob Gilroy, President, The Docks Waterfront Entertainment Complex.

PocketPOS operates on CE based PDA’s, like Fujitsu’s new line of wireless PCs, which are spill resistant and ruggedized to sustain a drop of up to four feet. It features a full color 8-inch screen with an LCD display that is easy to read, even in bright sunlight. A backlight makes it easy to use in the dark, and can be switched off to conserve battery power and the Li-ion battery lasts up to nine hours.

Lino D’Angicco, Co-Founder & CEO, PixelPoint says, “We have not seen a full screen handheld POS solution on the market quite like this. Our product boasts a common application across all terminals.”  A common interface across fixed and remote POS terminals greatly reduces training and implementation costs. D’Angicco sees the restaurant of the future having a few top sales/service people who remain on the sales floor interacting with customers and feeding data to/from the kitchen and bar via PocketPOS terminals. They can access real-time inventory information (including out-of stock items), lists of ingredients, wine pairings and calorie information then send food & beverage orders directly from the table. As the service people interact with customers, foodrunners would be responsible for carrying out the orders, as they’re ready.

As well, the restaurant manager can use PocketPOS to access reservations, inventory counts, hourly reports and performance statistics from anywhere in the restaurant. With PocketPOS, products may be added from the front end and all POS terminals are updated in real-time. This wireless solution can also manage reservations, so the hostess may continuously update the waiting list as she interacts with customers. PocketPOS will shortly feature printing and credit card transactions to bring increased speed and efficiency to the completion of business.

So far, the main customers of PocketPOS have been table service restaurants, entertainment complexes and clubs with outdoor patios that are able to benefit from the extended reach of the handheld terminal. As more restaurateurs realize the benefits of today’s technology, PocketPOS is gaining installations.
