Sunset Beach Resort
In 1972 his Highness
Prince Fahad bin Abdullah bin Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman acquired the area
known today as Sunset Beach. It was his highness’s dream to utilize the
natural landscape of the area to provide a place of beauty and tranquility
for families seeking relaxation and enjoyment.
Today, Sunset Beach
offers world-class accommodations, facilities, services, and activities on
460,000 square meters of beautifully landscaped gardens and soothing
beaches. In 2004 they won the International 5 Diamond Award. The resort
has more than 16 restaurants with a seating capacity of 1500 and provides
a wide range of dining environments which include Fine Dining, a European
lounge, Sushi, and a variety of other flavours from all over the world.
In December 2001, after
comparing various POS vendors, Sunset Beach installed 41 sites of
PixelPoint POS with StockBoy, CreditCheck, Back Office and Reservations.
“We chose
PixelPoint because it was newer to the market in contrast with the bigger
and older companies. PixelPoint jumpstarts from the point where other
vendors have left off. I believe this will make them faster in deploying
new ideas, technologies and yet it is offered at a very reasonable price”
said Ibrahim Alomar, MIS Director.
In order to
successfully run a resort of Sunset’s capacity, different software
packages must be integrated together. Sunset Beach integrated the
PixelPoint POS solution with their other specialized packages including
AMF for bowling,
Intercard for arcade games and
their in-house Hotel
Property Management Solution (PMS) called RealPro.
Making Everything Work
Together Smoothly
Although the
integration between the systems is seamless, Ibrahim has 2 full time
programmers that are continuously building and managing the customizations
and integrations for the PMS. In order for the two applications to
successfully run revenue reports and maintain accurate stock control some
integration had to be done to bridge the gap between the hotel and
restaurant data.
For example, in order
for Real Pro to recognize the daily revenues from the POS software Sunset imports all the sales from the PixelPoint tables to produce daily
sales and monthly P&L statements. They can also compare food cost between
the actual from the PMS and the estimate from PixelPoint.
To manage stock control,
Sunset
Beach
has their own
purchasing system to take care of the A-Z’s of the purchasing processes.
“We export the data from our system in a format that Stock Control can
read, and then import it to PixelPoint’s StockBoy using various utilities.
Other developments allow us to update the information in both systems
dynamically and unattended” said Ibrahim.
Sunset
Beach recently implemented a
SSB credit card which is
similar to a normal credit card, but internal only to Sunset Beach. They
have created a transaction system called Central Credit Transaction System
(CCTS) that can work with the PMS, the accounting software or any other
3rd party software such as PixelPoint’s CreditCheck.
The CCTS
allows staff, members and residents to use their cards anywhere in the
resort. With this system a child and father would have two separate
accounts and the parent could determine the spending amount allowed on the
child’s card. Sunset Beach employees
also have credit cards to manage the staff food allowance. The costs of
the meals are automatically calculated as expenses to specific departments
and each staff member has their own limitations based on that department.
“What I like the most
about the integrated system is that if a customer only had $10 on
their account but your total was $15.00 you can split the payment to $10
on account and $5 can be paid by cash or credit card" said Ibrahim.
The successful
installation and integration of PixelPoint POS software with Sunset
Beach’s other systems has made this world class resort run smoothly.
Ibrahim remarked “I am glad that we chose a POS solution that was
customizable to our needs, we are very pleased with the way the whole
system works together”.
