Company Background
Apple
Spice Junction was founded in 1988 in Salt Lake City, Utah and was
focused on serving the corporate community as well as State and local
government offices with fresh deli sandwiches and salads. As their deli
delivery business grew, a number of customers began to ask for catering.
Since it seemed like a perfect compliment to their existing business,
they decided to branch out in that area. Fast forward to today and Apple
Spice Junction is one of the top off site caterers in Utah in terms of
sales and volume.
Adapting to Growth
In 2003
Apple Spice decided to begin franchising their restaurant concept and
quickly sold a number of units across the U.S. and now has locations in
16 states. This expansion spurred them to begin looking for the best POS
system to handle the individual stores needs as well as the corporate
control that they felt they needed. After attending a number of
restaurant shows and researching different companies, they decided to go
with PixelPoint to meet their needs.
Addressing Their Needs
There were
three primary areas which were focused on throughout the decision
process for Apple Spice Junction’s POS purchase. The first one was the
concept of future orders. “Apple Spice deals almost entirely in the
future when ringing in orders, so it is very important to us that we be
able to use a calendar to schedule orders, have prep tickets print on
the proper day and for the sales to register on the correct day.
PixelPoint was by far the most superior system we looked at with the
extended capabilities that we needed” says Alison Ainge, Director of
Training
The second
area which was important was customer information. “We have never known
so much about our customers and their buying patterns as we do now.
PixelPoint has given us the ability to gather so much data for
marketing, customer loyalty programs and customer retention. Anything
we want to know about a customer is now at our fingertips and it has
helped us to make better business decisions,” says Ainge.
The third
area which Apple Spice looked at was the reporting features of a POS
system. Their previous POS system had been easy to use but the amount
of report information that could be retrieved from it was minimal.
Apple Spice knew that in a franchise environment being able to gather
data would be very important to the franchisee and to the corporate
office. “PixelPoint is outstanding in the amount of information that
can be gathered from the POS. It helps with inventory management, labor
control, food cost, and every other figure that a restaurant owner has
to manage in order to make a profit,” says Ainge.
Future Plans
Apple
Spice is currently moving forward with the PixelPoint’s gift card
program, Web-to-go and will be installing their enterprise solution,
HeadOffice into all their units in the first part of 2007. “We are so
pleased that PixelPoint continues to innovate and give us new options to
help us grow our business. We look forward to a long and beneficial
relationship with them”.
